A friendly visit from Mel Arnold

On November 10, 2022, we were visited by Mel and Linda Arnold, long-time friends of Sorrento Centre. Mel spent his early years just steps away and attended Sorrento Elementary while his mother worked for several years on the housekeeping and kitchen staff here at the centre. His sister was married here too!

Mel visited us on official business, as the Member of Parliament for North Okanagan Shuswap. He dropped off a wreath that will be laid tomorrow morning at the Cenotaph in front of St Mary’s Anglican-United Church, just across the Trans-Canada Highway from our Centre. Rev. Michael Shapcott, Executive Director of Sorrento Centre, will lead the service as chaplain.

During their visit, Michael shared with them a lovely old photo, taken on the back stairs of Spes Bona in 1920 at the gathering of Sorrento veterans at Kinghorn Estate, which is now the site of Sorrento Centre.

We encourage you to join Michael and others from the community including members of the Royal Canadian Legion at a special service at 11am at St. Mary’s. He will have the photo with him for those who would like a closer look.

Lest we forget… lest we forget…
