A robust love

With justice and peace

Reflecting on the anger, the fear, the misogyny, the Islamophobia, the homophobia, the poor-bashing, the white nationalism and all the other forms of evil that are tearing through our world, I am reminded that there is a better way. The late, great Jack Layton said it best before his death. Jack, as everyone who knew him will know, was not just some weak-eyed romantic. He knew that love, hope and optimism are hard work, require clear-headed planning, smart and strategic thinking, careful application of resources and determined action. Here at the Sorrento Centre, we aspire to live deeply into our mission as a holy place of transformation for learning, healing and belonging. Sometimes our focus is on arts and culture, rest and relaxation… nourishing and strengthening the spirit and the soul and the heart.

Sometimes our focus is on challenging ourselves and challenging others to learn and grown together. Sometimes our focus is on engaging – engaging with each other, engaging with our neighbours and engaging with the wonderful world around us. At all times, the goal is to bring a strength to what Jack named as love, hope and optimism… at all times, the goal is to bring a strength to what we and many others know as our common calling to practical demonstrations of love, justice and peace.
