On October 30th and 31st, fourteen quilters from the South Shuswap met in Richardson Lodge at Sorrento Centre to sew lap quilts. These beautiful quilts were made especially for people living on the north shore of Shuswap Lake who had lost their homes , property or businesses during the East Bush Creek fire in August. Acknowledging the grief, sadness, and trauma associated with the north shore environmental and property devastation, Sorrento Center offered space for the sewing retreat.
As we sewed, we spoke of our heartfelt thanks for the Shuswap Fire Dept ( Blind Bay and Sorrento halls) who worked diligently, and with heroic effort, on the north shore and on the south shore when the fire crossed the lake.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Many quilts were also made off site and donated to this project. There should be approximately 30 quilts to be distributed by mid-November. Our wish is that the quilts will bring hope and comfort as people on the north shore rebuild their homes and lives. Our north shore neighbours are Shuswap Strong.
