Blessing of our doggies

Even as they bless us each and every day!

A small pack of doggies gathered on our main campus on Sunday morning for a traditional Blessing of the Animals. The event is held on the feast day of St Francis of Assisi, who is reverred for his love and desire to live in harmony with all of creation – animals and the rest. The Sorrento Centre is on the traditional and unceded lands of the Secwepemc people, who have lived since time immemorial in a harmonious cycle with Mother Earth. In the sacred scripture of our Christian tradition, we read in the first Creation account that the entire world is “very good”. We celebrate all of that as we bless our animals.

Our Sunday pack included: Poco, Juno, Phoebe, Bain, Eclipse and Daisy. We also remembered other animals who couldn’t be with us, including dear Tucker, who lived amongst us for too short a time and passed away a couple of weeks ago.

The Rev’d Susan Hayward-Brown led our group as we read together Psalm 104, and then each dog and their human companion were invited to introduce themselves. After each dog was blessed, then the pack joined for a group photo with Susan.
