Celebrating Earth Day 2022
Honouring the traditional lands of the Secwépemc people
Earth day is a reminder that we all need Mother Nature to thrive if we want to thrive. At Sorrento Centre we are deeply committed to reducing our carbon footprint, making adaptations to our Centre to become as environmentally friendly and eco-conscious as possible. We are equally committed to hosting events, planning to engage activities and continuing to lead our community in environmental sustainability. We also acknowledge that here at Sorrento Centre we are lucky to work, play and grow on unceded and traditional lands of the Secwépemc people.
Today Secwépemc’ulucw Elders Johnny Jules and Angelina Wells joined our Earth Day ceremony in partnership with our next-door neighbours at Sorrento Elementary school and outdoor educators, WildBC facilitators with HCTF Education, Molly Cooperman and Brenda Melnychuk.
The students planted Aspen, Birch, and Choke Cherry trees around Sorrento Centre to honour of the indigenous children that did not come home from residential schools.
We are thankful to be the gathering place for such an important event honouring the indigenous communities and Mother Nature.
