Children and sunflowers change the world
What? how?
How can a small retreat centre in rural BC make a difference in a world plagued by war and climate change and so much more? How can sunflowers and small acts of kindness make a difference? We all know that simple gestures, an act of kindness and comfort extended to a child and their mother, can provide hope that will ripple through the world. We invite you to be part of that ripple of hope.
Children helping children. Children and youth have been busy creating beautiful sunflower coasters. Why sunflowers? The sunflower is the national flower of Ukraine, and it is long recognized as a symbol of peace.
As you may know, mothers and children are being evacuated from Ukraine as the violence of the war carries on. More and more are arriving across Canada often with little more than the clothing on their backs. In Calgary, the good people at St. Vladimir’s Ukrainian Orthodox Sobor are welcoming the children with backpacks stuffed with clothing and other useful things, including toys and books. We can bring sunshine — and sunflower coasters — to help bring hope to young children with your help.
Sunflower coasters are now available at the Sorrento Centre Shop!
All the proceeds from the sunflower coasters are going directly to the Ukrainian Humanitarian Aid Committee at St. Vlad’s so they can distribute tote bags filled with necessities to give to refugee children. We are very proud to support these acts of loving-kindness and look forward to sharing this vision with our guests and our community when we see you out and about at various events.
