Helping feed the hungry
In our commercial kitchen, Food Services Manager Karrie and her team work seven days a week to fresh and nutritious meals for people who are hungry in our region, as we have done every day of the week, month and year since the pandemic began. Every morning, a small crew of drivers take turns making the daily delivery to people who are homeless or in homeless shelters and transitional housing. Also, where possible we provide meals for tenants in supportive and affordable housing, women and children in women’s shelters and people living with various health conditions.
In addition, our kitchen also serves thousands of meals annually to guests on our campus, including – as circumstances require – people who have sought refuge from forest fires and flooding.
Last year, our staff have delivered 30,350 tasty and nutritious meals, 25,095 in 2021 and 21,018 in 2020.
As has become a tradition, on Christmas Eve, we send freshly cooked turkey to add to meals prepared and distributed by service clubs and faith communities – enough to fill the bellies of 600 people to our neighbours!
With sky-rocketing inflationary food prices, supply chain issues and ever-increasting fuel costs, we need your help so we can continue this important work. Please consider making a one-time donation or set up a monthly contribution. We need your support all year ’round. Not just at Christmas!
