Here comes the sun!

Blessing our new solar panels

This article was published on May 12, 2019. We currently have solar panels on our beautiful Spes Bona building – for more updates click here.

“We gather on the traditional and unceded lands of the Secwepemc people. As the first peoples have done for millenia, we look to the sky and honour the sun as the source of life and warmth, seasons and food. In recent decades, however, the reality of human-caused global warming has made us realize that our behaviours can alter the impact of the sun on our planet. We rejoice today that this new solar array will reduce our carbon footprint, caring more effectively for God’s good creation, the work of our generous and gracious God.”

With those words, we gathered on the lawn of Spes Bona, the Sorrento Centre’s iconic administration building, on Thursday, May 9, 2019 to welcome and bless our new solar panels. Phase one of Solar for Spes is already showing amazing results: 290,683 Wh of energy generated in the first 11 days. Our electricity bills for our offices have been cut almost in half as we draw clean, green and abundant energy from the sun.
