National Indigenous Peoples Day flag-raising

June 21 is National Indigenous Peoples Day in Canada. To honour the children this year (2021), including those in the 215 unmarked graves at the former Kamloops Indian Residential School, we raised an “Every Child Matters” flag at the Sorrento Centre. The flag was lower to half mast to mourn the loss of so many children.

The Sorrento Centre gratefully acknowledges that we are on the traditional and unceded land of the Secwepemc people, who have lived in this territory since time immemorial and have practiced virtues of harmony with the world around us and generosity with each other.
