Kukwstéc-kucw to the dozens of devoted Sorrento Centre Associates (our hardy core group of volunteers) who spent Thanksgiving Weekend on our main campus and natural farm showing their love… and celebrating neighbourliness. On Thanksgiving Sunday, we were honoured to hear stories from Secwepemc knowledge holder Kenthen Thomas followed by an incredible feast of turkey, all the trimmings, and fresh-baked pumpkin and apple pie. On Saturday, we were delighted to be led in several “good-god” moments with Brenda Melnychuk, who took us on a tour of our campus and waterfront.
Throughout the weekend, our Associates’ laboured throughout our grounds on many tasks, including the annual chore of bringing down the vines on Spes Bona (fear not – the hardy vines will once again climb up the side of Spes early in the season of 2020). Garlic was planted on our farm, and tulip and daffodils in gardens on our main campus. We will welcome hundreds guests to our beautiful place in the South Shuswap this fall and many more through the winter. Thanks to our Associates, our lovely centre is really shining with its fall colours!
