Meet Sarah Tokarek

the Shuswap Adventure Girl

Also known as the Shuswap Adventure Girl, Sarah Tokarek led a Bear Safety Workshop last fall in partnership with WildBC at the Centre. Sarah has been a long-time neighbour and friend of Sorrento Centre and we had the opportunity to sit down and chat before the workshop with her about what makes Sorrento Centre special to her and why she keeps coming back.

Sarah has lived in the Shuswap area for about eleven years now and has been coming to the centre for about eight years now. Being a busy mom on the go she finds Sorrento Centre to be a great place to take her young kids on a little excursion. She was – and is still amazed at all the outdoor space and our spectacular private beach. “Sorrento Centre welcomes the kids to come, there’s cross country skiing, snowshoeing and playing on the property”. Sarah loves the labrynth – and we agree!

During the Bear Aware workshop, Sarah shared some of her family’s stories of survival, only slightly joking that the love of the great outdoors runs in her blood given that her father was a conservationist in the Yukon. Sarah has aspirations of becoming part of a search and rescue team like her father.

We are grateful to be a place where Sarah carries on her family legacy through supporting and facilitating her workshops about safety in the wilderness. “I love that everybody here is so welcoming and super easy to work with. And also, so excited to work with me, so they help me see my vision come to life as well!”

Supermom, outdoor enthusiast, and survival expert – it is always a pleasure having Sarah at our Centre and we can not wait to see the workshops she has planned for the future. And to see the future nature lovers she will inspire.
