Solar for Spes
The talk of the town
This article was published on April 2, 2019. We currently have solar panels on our beautiful Spes Bona building.
It was a packed house at First United in Salmon Arm on April 2, 2019 as the Shuswap Solar Energy Society heard a presentation from Sweet Spot Solar’s Michael Mehta and Greensleeves Electric’s Amber Cachelin. The 2019 devastating national climate change report was top of mind as people gathered to hear the practical opportunities of plentiful solar energy. Amber and Michael are the solar consultants to the Sorrento Centre, and will be installing the first 19 panels on our iconic administration building, Spes Bona, in the very near future (the panels are about to be shipped to our increasingly sunny campus). Stay tuned for more details.
The first phase will generate lots of energy, but we are not stopping there. Phase two will more than double the number of panels on the roof of Spes. As a non-profit organization in a province that offers very little in the way of subsidies or support for solar, the Sorrento Centre relies on donations and grants.
