Toujours Pret – always ready

A warm crackling fire draws together friends and family … and the fireplace in Spes Bona is extra special. Did you know that on a cold winter evening back in 1926, the original beautiful mansion owned by the Kinghorn’s, Spes Bona, burned to the ground despite heroic efforts by the community.

This lovely stone fireplace survived. A new home was built of brick — largely due to Mrs. Kinghorn’s insistence — on the same site, and is used to this day for the office, meeting room, shop and admin offices for Sorrento Centre.

The phrase, incorporated into the stonework is “TOUJOURS PRET” which means, “always ready”.

Be sure to drop by as we lay wood in the fireplace ready for you to come home again to Sorrento Centre.
