We are so glad you are staying with us. Whether you are attending Sorrento programs, hosted events, group retreats,
or a personal stay, you are a welcome part of our community. Come nourish your mind, body, and soul which is so
important to the health and balance of our lives. We offer 24 historical acres of gorgeous natural setting on Shuswap
Lake, incredible programs, nutritious meals, and a winning staff team to enhance your wellbeing.

Our wellbeing is nourished by the land and environment that surrounds us. We acknowledge that the land we share, learn and live on is the traditional and unceded territory of the Secwépemc people. At Sorrento Retreat and Conference Centre, we pay tribute to those whose hands have cared for these lands for centuries, exhibiting values of generosity and harmony, values we strive to live into today.

Mission Statement
The Sorrento Retreat and Conference Centre is a gathering place for all…a place of learning, healing, and belonging. Ecumenical and interfaith in expression, offering warm and inclusive welcome, and generous hospitality to all. We are grateful to you for doing your part to uphold the values of the Centre during your visit.

Community Life
During our 5 weeks of summer programs, a campus fee is added to your stay for each adult and child. This fee
entitles you to unlimited opportunities to inspire mind, body, and spirit throughout your stay including courses,
games, music, worship, arts and crafts, programs for children and youth. Also included is a Continental Breakfast,
Welcome BBQ, Community Dinner and Snacks.

Fireworks/Campfires/Quiet Time

  • Fireworks or sparklers of any kind are prohibited on campus including the beach area. Fireworks of any kind are strictly prohibited in the Shuswap Region.
  • Campfires are only allowed in the contained fire pits and only if there is no campfire ban in effect at that time.
  • To respect guests, staff, and neighboring residents, the Centre adheres to the regulations set out by the CSRD (Columbia Shuswap Regional District) which states ‘between the hours of 12:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. disturbing the quiet, peace, rest, enjoyment, comfort or convenience of individuals or the public is prohibited. This means quiet intimate conversations, night walks, long quiet pauses, gazing at the stars, meditating at the beach, or Tai Chi under the meal tent, using your peaceful inner voice.

General

  • Sorrento Retreat and Conference Centre is not responsible for personal items left in guest rooms or elsewhere on the Centre’s grounds. We do have a lost and found in the foyer of the main office.
  • Should there be outstanding costs at the time of check-out, the credit card on file will be charged.

Campus Facilities & Wifi

  • Wifi Guest – Password: belonging
  • The maximum speed limit throughout the campus is 10km/hr. HINT: If you see dust in your rear-view mirror, you are going too fast!
  • Sorrento Retreat and Conference Centre’s private beach is open from 7:00 a.m. – dusk. We do not provide a lifeguard.
  • Showers are included in the camping fee. Adjust water temperatures before using. During the summer months, water restrictions may be in place, so we ask our guests to use water sparingly.
  • Laundry facilities are located at the lower washhouse ($3.00/wash $3.00/dry). Please be respectful and help keep our facilities clean and tidy. Laundry detergent is available in the main office.
  • The Shop campus store is located in Spes Bona and is open during office hours, or as posted. We offer ice, snacks, gifts, and other sundries.
  • Smoking areas are behind the lower washhouse, behind beach house and Fifi (willow tree located at end of Richardson Lodge). Smoking is not permitted elsewhere on the site. (Refer to campus map or clarify with the office for exact locations.)

Sorrento Registration and Check-in/Check-out

  • Check-in is between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Please call the office to request an early arrival. Checkout is 10:00 a.m.
  • A late charge may apply for late check-out, so please call the office to request a late check-out.
  • All reservations must have at least one registered guest over the age of 19.
  • Registration and payment in full must be completed before occupying your designated site/room.

Lodges and Apartments

  • Housekeeping staff will not enter a booked room without a guest present. If you require service to your room, please indicate on the Needs List provided on the bulletin board in the lodge where you are staying. Otherwise please stop by the office or call 250-675-2421 and a staff member can help you.
  • Rooms numbers are clearly labelled and must be occupied as designated. If you have trouble with your room key, please go to the office and ask for help.

RV’s and Camping

  • Site location identifications are clearly labelled and must be occupied as designated. If you are unable to locate your site or are unsure if you are on the correct site, please go to the office and ask for help.
  • All camping materials must be contained at your designated site. Additional site charges will apply when another site is encroached upon without permission.
  • Guests may use approved cooking devices in RV and tenting sites, but no open campfires are allowed.
  • Please do not flush anything other than human waste and toilet paper down our septic system.
  • All RV’s must have a sewer connection that seals tight.
  • For everyone’s comfort, there is a limit of one RV and one other vehicle per RV site. Park any additional vehicles in the parking area. Keep all roadways clear.
  • Before checking out please ensure that the RV/camping site is tidied, and all garbage is properly disposed of. Additional charges will apply if garbage is left.
  • DO NOT dump any grey or black water on the ground. Environmental laws and regulations prohibit this activity, and all related costs and fines that may result from a violation are solely the guest’s responsibility.

Photo Policy

  • Sorrento Retreat and Conference Centre staff, volunteers, and friends will be taking photos or videos of people and events throughout your stay to use for marketing materials such as our website, our newsletter, and our social media accounts. By participating in our programs and or by being on our campus, you are authorizing Sorrento Retreat and Conference Centre with the rights to use and permanently retain any/all photographs, audio, and video recordings taken during your stay with us. We usually let participants know when there is a photographer in attendance at programs or when we are recording a virtual session, and we strive to represent all images in an honest and respectful way. If you, your family, or group do not wish to be included in photographs or recordings on the campus, please sign an opt-out form at the front desk when you arrive and ensure that you identify yourself to any photographers on site. If a photo is being taken and you are in a position to do so, please do not partake in the photo. In the case of virtual meetings, please turn off your video and use the chat function when we are recording. Please ask for assistance if you need support.

Pets

  • All pets must always be on a leash or confined at your site. Do not leave pets unattended outside of your room/site. Do not tie pets to clotheslines or fences on campus.
  • Please clean up after your pet immediately and dispose of waste in the garbage bins.
  • Owners are responsible for the behavior of their pets at all times and are financially responsible for any damage caused by their pets.
  • Management reserves the right to ask the owner to remove unruly, loud, aggressive, or misbehaving animals at any time.
  • All Service animals must be certified by either the province or state they reside.

Health and Safety

  • Sorrento Retreat and Conference Centre follows the guidance of the BC Centre for Disease Control and the Province of British Columbia and guests are expected to follow this guidance as well. Recommendations can change over time, so please be sure you are aware of the current directives.

Alcohol/Marijuana

  • Alcohol: We expect all guests who choose to drink, to do so responsibly. Those who exceed respectful limits will not be welcome.
  • Marijuana: Medical consumption of marijuana is permitted under the instructions of a doctor. Non-medical consumption of marijuana (including smoking, vaping, and edibles) is not permitted on the Sorrento Retreat and Conference Centre’s land or in its buildings as per federal and provincial regulations which permit the Centre to restrict marijuana consumption, especially when children are present.

In Case of Emergency

  • In the event of Medical Emergency:
  1. Call 911 and provide the address: 1159 Passchendaele Road Sorrento BC. Note the name of the building, or the RV or camping site where the injured person is located. This will prevent unnecessary delays in emergency personnel finding you.
  2. Once 911 has been alerted, please contact Sorrento Retreat and Conference Centre staff by phone using the
    afterhours number: 250 463-9166.

Cancellation and Refund Policies

Please ensure the retreat or event you are registering for is the right one for you!

Campus Programs and Events
To book your reservation, we require a non-refundable deposit of 30% of your total charge.

  • The remaining balance is due 30 days before arrival and will be automatically charged to your credit card.
  • If you cancel 14 days before arrival, you forfeit all payments.
  • If you depart early during a program, full tuition and room charges still apply.

Please note:

  • Some retreats and events have other special deposit requirements and/or cancellation policies that are explained at the time of booking and are agreed upon in your event contract.
  • Please check with your airline about its cancellation policy. Sorrento Retreat and Conference Centre is not responsible for travel reservations booked to attend cancelled programs.

Cancelled Programs

Should Sorrento Retreat and Conference Centre have to cancel a program for any reason, including low registration, you’ll receive three weeks notice and may choose one of the following:

  •  Partial refund and remaining amount donated to Sorrento Retreat and Conference Centre
  •  Full donation to Sorrento Retreat and Conference Centre

*Sorrento Retreat and Conference Centre reserves the right to cancel any program due to low enrollment. We will do our best to notify all participants within 21 days of the start date. Program registration fees will be fully refundable or transferrable to use within the current year.


We hope your stay at the Sorrento Retreat and Conference Centre will be restful and nourishing.


Enjoy our private beach! – Lazy days with a good book, fun & frolic with the kids, or a quiet sunset… Take in the beautiful view of Copper Island (a short paddle away), splash on the safe gentle grade pebble beach, take swim in the roped off swim area and a floating dock ~ all this and more is waiting for you at the end of a short walk through the shaded forest.
