Welcoming our Neighbours, Welcoming Summer
Celebrating community in the South Shuswap – On June 27, 2019 the Sorrento Centre welcomed lots of our neighbours from Sorrento, Notch Hill, Tappen, Sunnybrae, Blind Bay, White Lake and other parts of the South Shuswap for the official start of summer on June 27! The day started with heavy rains, but the sun came out by noon, and the skies cleared by the time the crowds arrived at 4 pm.
For the next four hours, kids had their faces painted, the BBQ fired up by the Lions served burgers and hot dogs, SASCU credit union members dished out Tappen ice cream, dozens of non-profit organizations hosted information tables, first responders and water safety experts offered practical information and three musical groups filled the air with sweet tunes. Thanks to Paul Demenok, Area C Director for the Columbia Shuswap Regional District for his leadership, and MP Mel Arnold and his wife Linda. Event sponsors included the Columbia Shuswap Regional District, the South Shuswap Chamber of Commerce, the Arts Council for the South Shuswap and Shuswap Tourism.
The photos show Bobbie the Safety Boat, Boomshack (musical headliners from Victoria BC), Brad the magician entertainer passersby with sleight of hand, and the Tapped Truck (a vintage pick-up filled with local beers).
